Information

• All incoming Emory students, including students without prior knowledge of German, will have to take the placement test.
  
  
• The test consists of a series of multiple choice questions, which takes about 20 minutes. Please be sure to answer all questions including the survey at the beginning.
  
  
• The Department of German Studies considers the placement test in conjunction with other information such as number of years of High School German and AP scores. All factors are considered in determining proper placement, if necessary an additional interview will be scheduled.
  
  
• Upon completion of the test, each student will receive an email confirmation. This email will give you the appropriate class (classes), you are recommended to take. Please retain a copy of this confirmation, as you will need this document for the instructor to be admitted into the respective course.
  

THE HONOR CODE

The German Placement Exam is to be completed in accordance with the provisions set forth in the Emory College Honor Code. Every student who applies to and is accepted by Emory College, as a condition of acceptance, agrees to abide by the provisions of the Honor Code, so long as he or she remains a student at Emory College.

Sections 4 (c) and 4 (d) of the Honor Code cite the following types of
academic misconduct as grounds for reprimand or expulsion:

(c) Seeking, using, giving, or obtaining unauthorized assistance or
information in any academic assignment or examination;

(d) Intentionally giving false information to professors or instructors
for the purpose of gaining academic advantage.

You are therefore expected to complete the German Placement Exam individually, without help from others, and to complete it to the best of your ability.
