Zertifikat Deutsch als Fremdsprache

The Zertifikat Deutsch als Fremdsprache, (Certification in German as a Foreign Language), is an internationally recognized certification of basic competence in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding German. The exam is administered by the Goethe Institut Chicago, however, Mrs. Marianne Lancasster is authorized to give the exam at the end of the spring semester in our department. A minimum of two years of German is considered sufficient preparation for the exam, and all students at this level are encouraged to take it.

The Zertifkat Deutsch fuer den Beruf (ZDfB) requires a level of German similar to that required for the Zertifikat Deutsch als Fremdsprache plus approximately 100 to 120 lessons of Business German.

The candidates should be able to function at the appropriate level in German in general business related communicative situations both orally and in writing. They should understand simple texts, handle basic routine correspondence that has to do with day-to-day life in a business environment and to respond accordingly in standard business conversations.

Due to the orientation of this examination towards business-language, students can expect a high level of recognition in the areas of industry and commerce.

For more information, please visit the website of the Goethe Institut in Chicago.
