Requirements for Majors and Minors


Major

  • 2 years of German (German 101-202)*
  • German 301: German Literature
  • German 302: Contemporary German Culture
  • Completing an academic program in a German–speaking country: a) Emory’s Summer Study Abroad Program in Vienna, OR b) a semester in Freiburg, OR c) Berlin
  • A junior-level literature course
  • A senior-level literature course
  • A senior-level literature or culture course
  • A one credit hour conversation course
  • Four additional courses that focus on German topics, from courses taught by the German Studies Dept. or from areas such as Film Studies, Philosophy, History, Art History, German or European history before the twentieth century

Total : 13x4-credit hours plus 1x1-credit hour: 53 credit hours

Minor (as of Fall 2009)

  • 2 years of German (German 101-202)*
  • 4 more courses numbered 300 or higher taught bt the Department of German Studies, one of which can be in English
  • German 392: Advanced german Conversation (1-credit course)

Total : 8 x 4-credit hours plus 1 x 1-credit course: 33 credit hours

 

*Courses 101-202 can also be taken during our summer abroad program in Vienna, Austria
