Overview



The Department of German Studies offers several opportunities to obtain an award. There are external awards available through DAAD and the Fulbright Program.
Our Senior Lecturer Viola Westbrook represents Delta Phi Alpha, our German national honor society, which invites students in our department each spring who have a cummulative grade above 3.0 German grade 3.5 and higher.


 

The 2009 inductees to Delta Phi Alpha are Luka Anic, Will Bailey, Callie Jordan, Jennifer Levy, Caroline Maness, Sarah Richards, Lisa Roseman, Garrett Shelburne, John-Alex Shoaff.

 

 


There are several internal awards available for all students taking courses in German Studies. Each year the Sprachpreis is awarded to the most outstanding first and second year student. In addition we recognize the most outstanding Senior majoring in German. Also, the German Studies Award for Excellence is awarded each year to. This is the highest honor the department bestows on any student. This award generally goes to a graduating senior with a major or minor in German Studies.
